2-in-1 China Trip: Fly Direct from Belgrade to Guangzhou and Return from Shanghai for €591 with Air Serbia!

Published on: 30 July 2026
Airline
Air Serbia
Baggage
23 kg check-in baggage included
Travel period
November – December

2-in-1 China from Belgrade for €591 on Air Serbia with 23 kg check-in baggage included — fly direct into Guangzhou, then make your way north to Shanghai at your own pace before flying home. That means two of the great megacities of China on one ticket: Cantonese food and Pearl River nights in Guangzhou, then Bund skyline, French Concession streets, and night markets in Shanghai — without backtracking south just to catch the same airport out.

A traditional round-trip to Guangzhou only is also available at the same €591 price, but Dino reckons the open-jaw option — land CAN, return PVG/SHA — is the more interesting trip. Travel November and December; plan your China domestic hop (train or flight) between the two cities, and confirm BEG–CAN outbound, Shanghai–BEG return, fare rules, and China visa/entry requirements for your passport before you pay.

Booking information

The stronger itinerary is the open jaw: fly into Guangzhou and return from Shanghai Pudong. The reference fare is approximately €591 directly with Air Serbia, with a 23 kg checked bag included. A traditional Guangzhou return was also found at the same reference price.

More interesting itinerary
Guangzhou in, Shanghai out
From approximately €591 with Air Serbia
  • Direct Belgrade–Guangzhou outbound flight
  • Direct Shanghai–Belgrade return flight
  • 23 kg checked bag included
  • Book directly on Air Serbia
  • Better daytime return timing
  • Two major Chinese cities in one trip
  • Internal Guangzhou–Shanghai travel not included

Best for travellers who want a broader China trip. Add the cost and travel time of the domestic connection before booking.

Simpler alternative
Traditional return to Guangzhou
Also from approximately €591 with Air Serbia
  • Direct flights in both directions
  • No separate domestic journey required
  • 23 kg checked bag included
  • Book directly on Air Serbia
  • Simpler hotel and transport planning
  • Return reaches Belgrade at approximately 04:15
  • Best for travellers prioritising simplicity

Easier to manage, but with a less attractive return time and less variety than the open-jaw version.

Reference open-jaw itinerary: 30 November–13 December 2026

Both international sectors are direct. The itinerary provides approximately 13 days in China, but travellers must arrange their own transport between Guangzhou and Shanghai.

Outbound · 30 November 2026 · direct · 11h35
Belgrade to Guangzhou
Direct flight
Belgrade BEG → Guangzhou CANAir Serbia JU988
00:20 → 18:55

The after-midnight departure is not ideal, but the nonstop routing avoids connections and arrives at a practical evening time.

Return · 13 December 2026 · direct · 12h15
Shanghai to Belgrade
Direct flight
Shanghai Pudong PVG → Belgrade BEGAir Serbia JU987
10:15 → 15:30

A strong daytime return schedule and much better than arriving in Belgrade at approximately 04:15.

Direct long-haul flights are the biggest advantage

Both international sectors are nonstop, avoiding the connection risks common on lower-priced China itineraries.

Guangzhou–Shanghai transport is not included

Arrange a domestic flight or long-distance rail journey separately. Include the extra ticket, baggage rules, transfers and possible overnight stay in the real trip cost.

Book directly with Air Serbia

The reference fare was available on the Air Serbia website, making support and schedule-change handling simpler than with an online travel agency.

Suitable season, not perfect

Guangzhou should be milder than in summer, while Shanghai may be cool, grey or damp. It is a useful sightseeing period but not peak weather across both cities.

Check China entry and payment requirements

Confirm passport, visa or visa-free eligibility, domestic transport, mobile payment access, internet restrictions and local app requirements before travelling.

Open-jaw dates: Guangzhou in, Shanghai out

Dino Scorecard

A strong direct two-city China deal. The score is reduced by the separate domestic journey, concentrated date availability and slightly narrower destination appeal.

8.2Strong direct open-jaw deal

At approximately €591 with a 23 kg checked bag, this is a strong fare for direct long-haul flights from Belgrade.

The Shanghai return timing, nonstop routing and direct airline booking score highly. The internal Guangzhou–Shanghai segment is the main compromise.

Honest final Dino Score: 8.2/10.

Price
8.8/10

€591 with baggage is a strong direct long-haul fare, though not an exceptional sub-€500 price.

Direct routing
9.8/10

Both international flights are nonstop.

Schedules
9.1/10

The Shanghai daytime return is especially strong and avoids a 04:15 arrival in Belgrade.

Baggage
9.0/10

A 23 kg checked bag is included.

Airline and onboard product
7.8/10

A straightforward full-service product where the nonstop routing is the main attraction.

Booking simplicity
9.7/10

Available directly on Air Serbia.

Open-jaw practicality
6.8/10

The separate Guangzhou–Shanghai journey adds cost, baggage rules and planning.

Availability
8.0/10

Useful options, but concentrated in a short late-November to mid-December period.

Seasonality
7.9/10

Mild Guangzhou conditions, but Shanghai may be cool and grey.

Destination appeal
8.1/10

Shanghai has broad appeal; Guangzhou is rewarding but less obvious for mainstream leisure travellers.

Why this deal stands out

Direct flights from Belgrade to Guangzhou and back from Shanghai for approximately €591 create a more interesting story than a standard return. The fare includes 23 kg checked baggage, is bookable directly with Air Serbia and offers an excellent daytime Shanghai return. The compromise is the separate Guangzhou–Shanghai journey, which adds cost and planning. Honest Dino Score: 8.2/10.

Guangzhou hotel and China itinerary strategy

Guangzhou is a huge city, so choosing the right neighbourhood matters more than choosing the highest star rating. For most first-time visitors, the best balance is around Beijing Road, Gongyuanqian or Haizhu Square in Yuexiu. These areas are central, well connected and better placed for historic Guangzhou than the modern business districts farther east.

How long should you stay in Guangzhou?

Three nights is the ideal first stay. This gives enough time for the old city, riverside areas, traditional food, a modern skyline evening and one slower neighbourhood day. Two nights is possible for a compact visit, while four nights works better for travellers who want to explore both historic Guangzhou and Tianhe without rushing.

Do not stay near Guangzhou South unless necessary

Guangzhou South is useful for high-speed trains but is not the most rewarding sightseeing base. Stay centrally for the city visit, then travel to the station on departure day. Consider a station-area hotel only when taking a very early train or when convenience matters more than atmosphere.

Best areas to stay in Guangzhou

Best overall first-time base

Yuexiu: Beijing Road and Gongyuanqian

This is the strongest all-round choice for sightseeing, local food and convenient metro access. It places you between historic neighbourhoods, shopping streets and the river.

  • Best for: first visits, food, culture and short stays.
  • Advantage: central position between old Guangzhou and modern districts.
  • Look near: Beijing Road, Gongyuanqian or Haizhu Square metro stations.
  • Recommended stay: 3 nights.
Best for modern Guangzhou

Tianhe and Zhujiang New Town

A polished district with modern hotels, malls, restaurants, museums and skyline views. It is comfortable and easy, but feels less traditional than Yuexiu or Liwan.

  • Best for: premium hotels, couples, business travellers and modern city life.
  • Advantage: strong hotel supply and easy access to the Canton Tower area.
  • Trade-off: farther from many historic food streets and Guangzhou South.
  • Recommended stay: 3–4 nights.
Best for atmosphere and food

Liwan, Shamian and Huangsha

Stay here for older neighbourhoods, traditional Cantonese food, heritage architecture and a slower pace than the eastern business districts.

  • Best for: repeat visitors, food lovers and local character.
  • Advantage: easy access to Shamian Island and historic Liwan.
  • Trade-off: less convenient for some modern attractions and long-distance rail.
  • Recommended stay: 2–3 nights.
Dino tip: for this open-jaw China deal, book the first three nights around Beijing Road or Gongyuanqian. It gives a better introduction to Guangzhou than staying beside Guangzhou South solely for the eventual train toward Shanghai.

How to organise the Guangzhou stay

Three-night city stay

Historic Guangzhou plus the modern skyline

Yuexiu and Beijing Road 1 day
Liwan and Shamian 1 day
Tianhe / Zhujiang New Town 1 day
Hotel changes None

One central hotel is enough. Guangzhou is too large to justify moving accommodation only to save a small amount of metro time.

Four-night city stay

Add a slower food or riverside day

Historic centre 2 days
Modern Guangzhou 1 day
Food / river / relaxed exploration 1 day
Best area Yuexiu

The extra night is useful for travellers arriving tired after the long direct flight or those who want to explore the city without treating every day as a checklist.

Where to go next toward Shanghai

Simplest route

Direct to Shanghai

The simplest plan is three nights in Guangzhou followed by a direct high-speed train or domestic flight to Shanghai. This protects the trip from becoming overcomplicated.

  • Suggested stay: 3 nights Guangzhou + 5–6 nights Shanghai.
  • Best for: 10–13 day trips and first visits to China.
  • Add from Shanghai: Hangzhou or Suzhou as day trips.
  • Advantage: fewer hotel changes and simpler baggage handling.
Best coastal route

Guangzhou → Xiamen → Hangzhou → Shanghai

This is the most attractive longer south-to-east itinerary. It combines Cantonese food, a relaxed coastal stop, West Lake and a major international city.

  • Guangzhou: 3 nights.
  • Xiamen: 2–3 nights.
  • Hangzhou: 2 nights.
  • Shanghai: 4–5 nights.
Best low-effort add-on

Guangzhou → Hangzhou → Shanghai

Skip Xiamen and travel directly toward Hangzhou before finishing in Shanghai. This creates a cleaner route while still adding a very different city.

  • Guangzhou: 3 nights.
  • Hangzhou: 2–3 nights.
  • Shanghai: 4–5 nights.
  • Best for: 11–14 day trips.

Recommended open-jaw itineraries

10–13 day trip

Keep it simple

Guangzhou 3 nights
Travel to Shanghai 1 day
Shanghai 5–6 nights
Optional day trip Hangzhou or Suzhou

This is the best match for the shorter prepared flight dates and leaves enough flexibility if the domestic transport schedule changes.

13–16 day trip

Create a proper south-to-east China journey

Guangzhou 3 nights
Xiamen 2–3 nights
Hangzhou 2 nights
Shanghai 4–5 nights

This route adds variety without moving backward geographically and finishes close to the international departure point in Shanghai.

Dino tip: keep at least the final two nights in Shanghai before the flight home. Do not schedule a long same-day domestic train or flight immediately before the international departure.

Hotel strategy for the rest of the route

Xiamen

Stay near Siming or Zhongshan Road

Choose a central base for food, the waterfront and easy city exploration rather than staying beside the railway station.

  • Best stay: 2–3 nights.
  • Best for: coastal atmosphere and a slower pace.
  • Avoid: moving hotels for a short stop.
  • Next: continue toward Hangzhou or Shanghai.
Hangzhou

Stay near West Lake, not only near the station

The main reason to visit Hangzhou is the lake and its surrounding neighbourhoods. Stay close enough to enjoy early mornings and evenings before continuing to Shanghai.

  • Best stay: 2 nights.
  • Best for: scenery, walking and a quieter contrast to Shanghai.
  • Transport: frequent trains continue to Shanghai.
  • Next: Shanghai for the final part of the trip.
Shanghai

Stay centrally for the final nights

People's Square, Nanjing Road, Jing'an and the former French Concession are practical first-time areas. Avoid choosing a distant airport hotel for the whole Shanghai stay.

  • Best stay: 4–6 nights.
  • Best for: the final major-city section of the trip.
  • Keep: at least two nights before the flight home.
  • Airport strategy: move near Pudong only for a very early departure.
Search Guangzhou hotels with Booking.com

Start with Beijing Road, Gongyuanqian, Haizhu Square, Tianhe and Liwan. Filter for a review score of at least 8/10, clear acceptance of international guests, private bathroom, air conditioning, recent cleanliness reviews and a short walk to a metro station.

Before booking: verify that the property accepts international travellers, confirm the exact metro station, room size, window availability, cancellation conditions, luggage storage, late arrival procedure and the complete stay price.

Hotel policies, rail schedules, domestic flight prices, entry rules and transport times can change. Confirm the final accommodation total, hotel guest policy, domestic transport, baggage conditions, station or airport, passport validity and current China entry requirements before booking.
