Kuala Lumpur
from €522 return
About this deal
This is one of those rare economy deals where I would actually lean toward the OTA. Mytrip via Skyscanner Malta was showing around €522–€525 return with Etihad Airways, and the prepared fares include 25kg checked baggage.
If you open the same trip as a normal return directly on Etihad, you may see a price above €1,000 and wonder whether the OTA fare is an error. It is not. The useful airline-direct comparison is to price the trip as two separate one-way Etihad tickets; that came to roughly €540 total after currency conversion when checked.
Travelling very light? Basic fares can fall into the upper €400s. Personally, for only a little more, I would take the 25kg bag — especially on a long Asia trip where shopping somehow always seems to find its way into the suitcase.
Etihad direct as 2 one-ways: about €540
Routing: 1 stop in Abu Dhabi
Checked baggage: 25kg included
Hand baggage: 7kg included
Reference stay: 14 nights
Reference flight schedule
Etihad Airways · 13h30 total
Bucharest 12:35 → Abu Dhabi 19:30
1h20 connection in AUH
Abu Dhabi 20:50 → Kuala Lumpur 08:05+1
A quick, efficient connection and a morning arrival in Kuala Lumpur.
Etihad Airways · 14h10 total
Kuala Lumpur 03:20 → Abu Dhabi 06:50
1h10 connection in AUH
Abu Dhabi 08:00 → Bucharest 11:30
The departure is early, but the short connection keeps the overall journey time impressively tight.
Baggage + fare details
Etihad's normal return pricing can show above €1,000, but pricing the journey as two separate one-way tickets brings the direct-airline total back to roughly €540. That is why the €522–€525 OTA fare does not look like an error fare.
Travelling light? Basic options without the 25kg checked bag can drop into the upper €400s. I prepared the dates below with checked baggage because the extra cost is small compared with the usefulness of a 25kg allowance on a long Asia trip.

KULKuala LumpurBooking options
A rare case where I lean toward the OTA: one straightforward return booking, Etihad-operated flights, and the prepared fares already include 25kg checked baggage.
Check Mytrip fare →If you prefer dealing directly with the airline, search the outbound and return as two separate one-way bookings. The total was in roughly the same range after currency conversion.
Search Etihad one-way fares →The strange return pricing is the trick here. If the OTA makes you uncomfortable, the direct-airline backup is still excellent value — just book the two directions separately. Recheck the final baggage, currency conversion and payment total before paying.
Compare the reference fare →I prepared these searches with checked baggage included. January to March has the cleaner schedules; some later spring dates are still cheap but come with a longer overnight connection in Abu Dhabi.
Dino Elite economy value. Full-service Etihad to Southeast Asia for roughly €522 return, with 25kg checked baggage and genuinely useful alternative booking strategies. The early Kuala Lumpur departure is the main compromise; otherwise the value is exceptional.

Kuala Lumpur hotel playbook
For the reference trip I’d spend 3–4 nights in Kuala Lumpur, then use the longer prepared dates to build a bigger Malaysia or Southeast Asia itinerary. Hotels can be very good value here, so location and room quality matter more than chasing the absolute cheapest bed.
Keep Karma switched on while you browse Booking.com. If it spots the same stay for less elsewhere, compare the final total before paying.
💰 Dino hotel booking method
Choose the neighbourhood first, then shortlist hotels with strong recent reviews and the room type you actually want.
Leave the extension active while browsing Booking.com so it can compare prices in the background.
If Karma finds nothing useful, do one final comparison before paying.
⏳ How many nights in Kuala Lumpur?
Enough for the headline sights, but it will feel rushed.
Good for KLCC, Bukit Bintang, food and a few neighbourhoods.
Best balance before moving on to another part of Malaysia or the region.
Fine if you love cities, but on the longer prepared trips I would start adding other stops.

Good cafés, restaurants and a more local neighbourhood feel away from the main tourist core.
