You fly Rome to Abu Dhabi in Business Class, spend 1 night in Abu Dhabi with a complimentary stopover hotel, continue to Bangkok the next afternoon in First Class, then return from Bangkok with the A380 First Apartment before connecting back to Rome in Business.
The Etihad booking flow showed a flight fare of €3,100.39 plus a €17.27 stopover reservation fee, for a total of €3,117.66.
For this deal I would book directly on Etihad.com.
The stopover hotel selection, mixed-cabin itinerary and aircraft-specific First Class sectors are much easier to verify in one place than by trying to recreate the trip through an aggregator.
I would also keep the stopover to 1 night. It gives you a taste of Abu Dhabi and the stopover experience without overcomplicating the trip. When checked, extending the stopover to 2 nights pushed the total above €3,600.

I would treat the stopover as part of the First Class experience rather than simply a connection.
You arrive in Abu Dhabi at 19:30, have a hotel night included, and do not leave for Bangkok until 14:15 the next day.
That gives you time to sleep properly, have a look around Abu Dhabi and then return to the airport refreshed for the A321LR First flight.
Etihad's stopover flow offered several hotels including Grand Millennium Al Wahda, Courtyard by Marriott WTC Abu Dhabi, Southern Sun Abu Dhabi, Ramada Corniche, Premier Inn Abu Dhabi International Airport and others, subject to availability.
The complimentary stopover programme can allow more than one night on eligible itineraries, but for this specific fare the economics changed substantially when I tested a longer stop.
A 2-night Abu Dhabi stopover pushed the total above €3,600 when checked.
For me, that removes too much of the value.
The 1-night version at €3,117.66 is the sweet spot: enough time to experience Abu Dhabi without turning the stopover into an expensive addition.
The attraction here depends heavily on the aircraft combination.
The selected reference itinerary showed the A321LR on Abu Dhabi-Bangkok and the A380 on Bangkok-Abu Dhabi.
Before paying, confirm the operating aircraft on the exact flights you select.
Aircraft substitutions can happen for operational reasons even after booking, so no aircraft type can be guaranteed absolutely.
For this deal I would deliberately skip Skyscanner and book directly with Etihad.
The trip is more complex than a normal return fare because it combines Business, two different First Class products and an Abu Dhabi stopover hotel.
Search Rome to Bangkok on Etihad, choose the flights showing the required aircraft, add the 1-night Abu Dhabi Stopover, then select one of the included hotels.
Before payment, re-check that AUH-BKK shows the A321LR and BKK-AUH shows the A380.
Etihad's stopover programme offers selected hotel accommodation in Abu Dhabi or Al Ain on eligible round-trip itineraries.
For this fare, I would keep it to one night only.
It gives you the experience without the substantial fare increase I found when testing a 2-night stop.

Our pick is the Shangri-La Bangkok, a classic 5-star riverside hotel with an excellent location, two swimming pools, a spa, multiple restaurants and easy access to the BTS Skytrain.
For the reference 01–04 December 2026 stay, the lowest room shown was €602 total for 2 adults — approximately €301 per person for 3 nights. This is obviously not a budget stay, but it fits the character of the Etihad First Class trip very well.
Shangri-La Bangkok is a strong first-stay choice if you want to step off an Etihad First Class flight and continue with a proper five-star experience rather than immediately switching to a basic city hotel.
The supplied booking search shows a 8.9/10 guest score from 3,670 reviews, with an excellent 9.4 location score. Couples also rate the location at 9.4/10.
The hotel sits directly on the Chao Phraya River in Bang Rak and is adjacent to Saphan Taksin BTS Skytrain Station. That combination is particularly useful in Bangkok because you can move around by BTS, river boat or taxi without being completely dependent on road traffic.
Facilities shown include 2 swimming pools, a spa and wellness centre, fitness centre, 9 restaurants, room service, free Wi-Fi and a bar. The hotel also operates a shuttle boat from Sathorn Pier toward ICONSIAM.
For the first 3 nights, I think the riverside location works especially well: recover from the flight, enjoy the hotel properly, explore the historic river side of Bangkok and then move on to another part of Thailand.

The supplied search is for 01–04 December 2026 · 3 nights · 2 adults · 1 room. Prices can change, but this gives a realistic reference for a luxury riverside stay at the beginning of the trip.
For a first visit, 3 nights is a very good starting point. It gives you two full days plus the arrival evening to see the river, temples, markets, rooftop bars and some of the city's food scene without letting Bangkok consume the entire Thailand trip.
Bangkok's neighbourhoods feel very different from each other. For a first visit, I would choose based on whether you prioritise river atmosphere, nightlife, shopping or public transport.
The reference 01–16 December trip gives you enough time to see more than Bangkok. I would combine the capital with one cultural / northern stop and one beach region rather than changing hotels every second night.
3 nights Bangkok + 4 nights Chiang Mai + 7 nights Krabi / Phuket + 1 final night Bangkok.
This gives you a proper city introduction, northern culture, a long beach section and a stress-free final night before the 08:30 Etihad departure.
3 nights Bangkok + 10 nights Phuket / Krabi + 2 nights Bangkok.
Best if the purpose of the trip is mainly to relax and keep the premium feel going after the First Class flights.

A little more time in the cities and north, with enough beach time at the end.
