London Heathrow
→
Accra
from £1,671 return
About this deal
There are two useful British Airways routings from London to Accra, and they offer very different Business Class experiences.
The Heathrow option costs a little more, but it is scheduled with the
Airbus A350 in a modern 1-2-1 Business Class configuration, giving every passenger direct aisle access and considerably more privacy.
If comfort and privacy matter to you, this is the option Dino recommends for the relatively small premium.
The Gatwick option is cheaper and available on more dates, but it is scheduled with a
Boeing 777 in BA's much older 2-4-2 Business Class layout.
The seats are full-flat, but the cabin is dense and the middle block is particularly unattractive by modern Business Class standards.
Dino scores the Heathrow A350 option 8.4/10 and the
Gatwick 777 option 7.6/10.
Heathrow availability is actually reasonably good across the autumn dates we found, although some combinations still have very early 04:00–05:00 London arrivals.
The 14–23 October 2026 itinerary is our preferred reference because the return reaches Heathrow at a much more civilised 06:15.
British Airways direct: £1,754.79
Difference: about £84
Cabin: Business Class
Aircraft: Airbus A350
Seat layout: 1-2-1 · direct aisle access
Heathrow A350 availability appears much more limited than the Gatwick alternative.
Reference flight schedule
British Airways BA81 · Business Class · nonstop
London Heathrow 13:30 → Accra 19:10
Journey time: 7h05
Aircraft: Airbus A350
Business Class layout: 1-2-1
A very good daytime schedule and a much more competitive hard product than the Gatwick 777 alternative.
British Airways BA78 · Business Class · nonstop
Accra 22:10 → London Heathrow 06:15 next day
Journey time: 7h05
Aircraft: Airbus A350
Business Class layout: 1-2-1
The overnight timing itself is fine, but 06:15 into Heathrow is a much more manageable arrival.
This remains one of the main negatives of the fare.
Route map
The strength of this deal is simple: no connection, a modern A350 and direct aisle access for every Business Class passenger.

Why Heathrow is the recommended option
The Heathrow flights are scheduled on the Airbus A350 with a
1-2-1 Business Class configuration.
Every passenger has direct aisle access, and the cabin is far more private and modern than the
2-4-2 layout shown on the Gatwick alternative.
The OTA fare of around £1,671 is only modestly more than the cheapest Gatwick OTA fare we found,
yet the hard product is substantially better.
The A350 Heathrow fare does not appear to have the same broad availability as the Gatwick deal.
That is the main reason the score stays at 8.4/10 rather than moving higher.
The return also lands at Heathrow at 04:50, which is still an unpleasant arrival time despite the much better seat.
Compare Heathrow and Gatwick
1-2-1 Business Class, direct aisle access for every passenger, nonstop flights and a very good outbound schedule. The downside is that availability is concentrated mainly in the autumn dates we found, and some alternatives still have very early London arrivals.
Search British Airways →More date combinations and a slightly lower fare, but Skyscanner shows the older 2-4-2 full-flat Business Class configuration. The middle block is particularly poor by modern Business Class standards, and not every passenger gets easy aisle access.
Check Gatwick alternative →Fare + product details
These are the more attractive LHR → ACC A350 Business Class combinations we found. The 14–23 October 2026 option is the Dino reference because its 06:15 Heathrow arrival is considerably more civilised than the 04:00–05:00 arrivals on some other dates.
If the Heathrow A350 fare is not available on your dates, the Gatwick 777 alternative can still be useful — but it scores only 7.6/10 because of the older 2-4-2 Business Class cabin.
Heathrow A350: Very Good — and the version Dino recommends. The 1-2-1 A350 cabin fixes the biggest problem with the cheaper Gatwick fare. Nonstop routing, an excellent outbound schedule and the much better 06:15 Heathrow arrival are all strong. Poor availability and the 06:15 return arrival prevent it from scoring higher.
Full Dino Score breakdown
The Gatwick fare is cheaper and has much better availability, but its scheduled 2-4-2 Boeing 777 Business Class cabin is a major downgrade. It is full-flat, but this is not the Business Class layout I would choose when a modern 1-2-1 A350 is available for only a modest premium.

Accra is the obvious base for the British Airways deal, but with around 9 nights I would not automatically spend the entire trip in the capital. A few nights in Accra plus Cape Coast / Elmina, Kumasi or the Volta region makes the trip much more varied.
Best areas to stay in Accra
Accra is spread out and traffic can make short distances feel much longer than they look on a map. For a short leisure stay, location matters more than saving a small amount on the nightly rate.
How I would split 9 nights
If Ghana is new to you, I would keep the trip fairly simple rather than changing hotels every night. A good first-timer split is 4 nights Accra + 2 nights Cape Coast / Elmina + 3 nights Accra, or replace the final Accra stay with Kumasi if you want more history and culture.
Where to go next in Ghana
Cape Coast & Elmina
History, coastal forts and an easy contrast with Accra. Two nights works well.
Kumasi
Ashanti history, markets and a very different feel from Accra. Better as an overnight stay than a rushed day trip.
Akosombo / Volta Region
Lake scenery, slower pace and a good choice if you want to break up the city portion of the trip.
Kokrobite
Beach atmosphere close to Accra, but use normal beach-safety precautions and avoid isolated areas after dark.
If you want to add another country
Adding another country can make sense with a 9-night trip, but I would keep it to one additional destination. Check current visa, passport-validity, vaccination and re-entry requirements for your nationality before you commit to a cross-border ticket.
Lomé, Togo
The geographically obvious add-on from Accra. Good for 2–3 nights if you want a simple coastal West Africa extension.
Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire
A bigger, more polished city break and a strong food / nightlife contrast with Accra. Better by flight for a short trip.
Dakar, Senegal
More ambitious, but a very interesting second-country option if the flight timings and fare work well.
Dino rule: do not add a second country just to collect another flag. If the connection, visa process or transport eats half the trip, stay in Ghana and use the time for Cape Coast, Kumasi or the Volta region instead.
Dangers, precautions & what not to do
The aim here is not to make Ghana sound frightening. Most visits are trouble-free, but Accra is not a place where I would walk around after dark displaying an expensive phone, watch or camera. The most useful precautions are simple: choose a sensible hotel area, use reliable transport at night, keep valuables discreet and pay attention around ATMs, beaches and the airport.
Emergency numbers in Ghana: 112 or 999 can be used for emergency services. Before travelling beyond Accra, check current government travel advice because regional conditions can change.
Things to do in Accra
Compare current Accra city tours, food experiences, cultural visits, Cape Coast day trips and other organised activities below. For longer Cape Coast / Elmina trips, compare a day tour against staying overnight — with a 9-night itinerary, I would usually prefer the overnight option.
