Chengdu
from €1,774 return
About this deal
This is a genuinely cheap nonstop premium-cabin fare from Madrid to Chengdu with
Sichuan Airlines. The airline booking engine showed the reference itinerary at
€1,773.83 return, while Skyscanner was showing essentially the same fare at around
€1,774.
The booking page labels the cabin as First, but this is not the sort of modern 1-2-1
private-seat product that would normally justify a huge premium. The A330 cabin on this route is a more
traditional 2-2-2 layout, which is perfectly usable for couples but much less attractive
for solo travellers who value direct aisle access.
The fare is strongest on price, nonstop routing and baggage. Availability is mainly in
December, January and early February, which also means colder travel months in Chengdu.
The return departure at 01:50 is another weakness, although overnight Asia-to-Europe
departures are fairly common.

Reference flight schedule
Sichuan Airlines 3U3804 · nonstop
Madrid 11:05 → Chengdu Tianfu 06:00+1
Journey time: 11h55
The daytime departure from Madrid is convenient, but the 06:00 arrival is early for hotel check-in.
Sichuan Airlines 3U3803 · nonstop
Chengdu Tianfu 01:50 → Madrid 07:45
Journey time: 12h55
The 01:50 departure is the biggest schedule weakness and effectively turns your final evening into a late airport night.

One of the strongest parts of this fare is the simple nonstop routing in both directions.

Fare proof
The reference itinerary was shown at €1,773.83 return, discounted from €1,933.83. The booking engine labels the cabin as First.
Check reference dates →The reference fare showed 2 free checked bags up to 32 kg each and 2 free cabin bags up to 8 kg each in both directions.
Fare proof reflects the itinerary and baggage shown when checked. Aircraft, seat type and fare conditions can change, so verify the operating aircraft and final ticket conditions before payment.
What makes it good — and what holds it back
Under €1,800 return for a nonstop Europe–China premium cabin is excellent, especially with 2 × 32 kg checked baggage. The direct routing also saves you from a long connection in the Gulf or elsewhere in Asia.
1. 2-2-2 cabin: not competitive with modern 1-2-1 premium cabins, especially for solo travellers.
2. Winter-heavy availability: the cheapest dates are mainly December, January and early February.
3. Return schedule: 01:50 from Chengdu is not pleasant, even if this sort of timing is common on Asia-to-Europe flights.
4. Early arrival outbound: 06:00 in Chengdu can leave you waiting several hours before normal hotel check-in.
Booking options
Useful for reopening the exact dates and checking the live market price. Skyscanner was showing Sichuan Airlines itself at essentially the same fare as the airline booking engine.
Check Skyscanner →This is the option Dino would choose. Open the fare through Skyscanner, then select the Sichuan Airlines result. That keeps the booking directly with the airline while still starting through Dino's Skyscanner link.
Open Skyscanner → Sichuan Airlines →When checked, Kiwi was around €1,779, Gotogate around €1,885 and Trip.com around €1,920. The best path is to open the fare through Skyscanner and then choose the Sichuan Airlines option at around €1,773.83. That way you still book with the airline, while the referral is tracked through Skyscanner.
Open Skyscanner → Sichuan Airlines →Availability is concentrated in the colder months. The 15–27 January combination is the reference used for the fare proof.
Good — very strong price, but not a top-tier premium experience. The fare, nonstop routing and baggage are excellent. The 2-2-2 cabin, winter-heavy dates and awkward return departure keep the overall trip below 8.

The reference itinerary gives you 12 nights, which is far more than you need for Chengdu alone. For most first-time visitors, 4–5 nights in Chengdu is the sweet spot, then use the rest of the trip for places like Chongqing, Xi’an, Leshan, Mount Emei or another part of China.
Search hotels in Chengdu
Chengdu has everything from international chain hotels to excellent-value local properties. For a first visit, I would usually stay somewhere with easy metro access rather than chasing the absolute cheapest room far from the centre.
Best areas to stay in Chengdu
How many nights in Chengdu?
Three nights is enough for the pandas, central Chengdu and a taste of the food scene. Four to five nights is much better because it gives you time for teahouses, neighbourhoods, a proper hot-pot evening and at least one day trip. With 12 nights on the reference itinerary, I would definitely split the trip rather than stay only in Chengdu.
What to do from Chengdu
Where to go next in China
Chongqing
My first choice. Close enough to combine easily, completely different cityscape, huge food scene and one of the most dramatic urban environments in China.
Xi’an
Excellent historical contrast with Chengdu. Strong choice if you want the Terracotta Army, city walls and a deeper cultural itinerary.
Zhangjiajie
Better if scenery is the priority. Works well as a separate nature stop if you are happy to add another domestic journey.
Lijiang / Yunnan
Good if you want old towns, mountain scenery and a softer pace after Chengdu.
Shanghai or Beijing
Best if this is your first major China trip and you want to add one of the country’s headline cities before flying home.
Dangers, precautions & what not to do
Chengdu is generally manageable for visitors, but China can feel very different operationally from Europe. The main issues are less about violent crime and more about payments, apps, language, internet restrictions, transport planning and avoiding tourist scams.
Things to do in Chengdu
Compare current panda experiences, food tours, Leshan excursions, cultural tours and day trips below. For a 4–5 night stay, I would normally book one or two structured experiences and leave plenty of room for the city itself.
