About this deal
A strong Business Class fare from Zurich to Kathmandu with Air India, with comfortable protected connections in Delhi and proper full-flat Business Class seats on the long-haul 787 sectors.
Our reference is 17–30 May 2027. The cheapest option checked was CHF 1,129 / approximately €1,210 return with Lastminute.com via Skyscanner Switzerland. If you prefer to book directly with the airline, select Air India from the same Skyscanner provider list; the airline-direct price checked was CHF 1,232 / about €1,320 return before the small FLYAI checkout discount.
The long sectors ZRH–DEL and DEL–ZRH are scheduled on the Boeing 787 with 2-2-2 full-flat Business Class. The shorter Delhi–Kathmandu sectors use an A320 with 2-2 recliner Business seating. The fare includes 10 kg cabin baggage and 2 × 32 kg checked baggage.
All six prepared date combinations use the same schedule shown in the reference below, with short Delhi connections and no overnight airport wait.

KTMKathmanduBusiness Class product and booking notes
For around CHF 1,129 / €1,210 return, you get full-flat Business Class on both nine-hour long-haul sectors and only short recliner sectors to and from Kathmandu. The total journey times — 13h20 outbound and 12h55 return — are very competitive for a one-stop Nepal itinerary.
The 787 seat converts into a proper flat bed, but the 2-2-2 configuration means window passengers need to pass their seatmate to reach the aisle. It is a meaningful difference from newer 1-2-1 Business Class products, although the fare is much lower than many competing premium-cabin options.
The prepared links open Skyscanner Switzerland. The cheapest checked reference was Lastminute.com at CHF 1,129. If you prefer airline-direct booking, select Air India from the same provider list; the direct fare checked was CHF 1,232 / about €1,320. Air India showed the code FLYAI for a further CHF 4 discount at checkout. There is no separate Air India link in this scorecard — use the prepared Skyscanner search and choose the provider you prefer.

CHECK 17 MAY – 30 MAY →All six prepared combinations use the same schedule as the reference: 787 full-flat on the Zurich–Delhi long sectors, A320 recliner on the short Delhi–Kathmandu sectors, and short protected connections in Delhi. Prices are dynamic, so check the live provider list before booking.
A very strong Nepal Business Class fare: CHF 1,129 / about €1,210 return, proper 787 full-flat seats on both long-haul sectors, short protected Delhi connections, a generous baggage allowance and six prepared date combinations. The main compromises are the older 2-2-2 cabin and the less reliable mountain-view weather as the dates move toward late May and June.

Kathmandu hotel playbook
The reference Air India itinerary leaves Zurich on 17 May 2027 at 20:50, arrives in Kathmandu on 18 May at 13:55, and flies home on 30 May at 10:05. That gives you 12 hotel nights in Nepal. For a Kathmandu base, I would choose the neighbourhood around the kind of trip you want: Thamel for convenience and nightlife, Lazimpat for a calmer central stay, Boudha for atmosphere around the stupa, or Patan / Lalitpur for a more historic local feel.
This trip is still well ahead, so I would be comfortable securing a well-rated hotel with free cancellation once you find a price and location you like. Keep the booking as your safety net, then re-check the same dates before the cancellation deadline. If a genuinely better option appears, confirm the replacement first and only then cancel the original reservation.

💰 Dino hotel booking method
Find 3–5 well-rated hotels in the part of Kathmandu you actually want and prioritise a rate with free cancellation. If the price already feels fair, booking it now gives you a safety net instead of waiting and risking a later increase.
Re-check the same dates periodically. If the same hotel drops, or a better property appears for less, compare the exact room and conditions first. Only cancel the original reservation after the replacement is confirmed.
Before paying, use Karma and Trivago as extra checks. Compare the full 12-night amount including breakfast, cancellation terms, taxes, airport transfers and payment timing — not just the headline nightly rate.
🌙 How many hotel nights?
Check in: 18 May.
Check out: 30 May 2027.
Arrival is at 13:55. That works well for a normal hotel check-in after immigration, baggage collection and the airport transfer.
Twelve nights gives you room for Kathmandu Valley sightseeing plus a few nights elsewhere in Nepal if you do not want to stay in the capital for the entire trip.
The return leaves in the morning, so keep the final night somewhere with a straightforward airport transfer and leave a generous buffer for Kathmandu traffic and airport formalities.
📍 Best areas to stay
Thamel
The easiest first-time base: lots of restaurants, cafés, tour operators, shops and accommodation. Very convenient, but some streets can be busy and noisy, so read recent reviews carefully if sleep matters.
Lazimpat
A calmer central option north of Thamel, with restaurants and larger hotels while still keeping the main tourist areas reasonably close. Good if you want convenience without being in the busiest lanes.
Boudha
Strong for atmosphere around Boudhanath Stupa, rooftop cafés and a more spiritual neighbourhood feel. It is less central for Durbar Square and Thamel, so factor Kathmandu traffic into sightseeing days.
Patan / Lalitpur
My pick for historic courtyards, cafés and a different side of the valley. Great if you want Patan Durbar Square on your doorstep and do not mind crossing the river for central-Kathmandu sights.
🌎 How I would use the 12-night stay
Give the historic centre and Durbar Square proper time rather than rushing through. Add nearby markets, temples and local neighbourhood walks around the same day.
Use another day for the eastern side of the city. Boudhanath and Pashupatinath pair naturally, and the slower pace around Boudha is worth keeping some time for.
Patan deserves more than a quick photo stop, and Bhaktapur makes an easy separate day trip. Both give you a stronger feel for the Kathmandu Valley beyond Thamel.
Late May can bring haze or showers. Keep at least one day flexible for a Nagarkot viewpoint, a slower café day, shopping, or simply moving an outdoor plan when the weather looks better.
🗺️ Where to go next
Twelve nights is long enough to keep Kathmandu as the main base and still add another part of Nepal. I would only change hotels when the second stop gives you a genuinely different experience.
Kathmandu → Pokhara
The strongest two-base combination for many first-time visitors: city and heritage first, then lakeside scenery and easier access to mountain viewpoints. Return to Kathmandu before the international flight home.
Kathmandu → Nagarkot / Bhaktapur
A low-effort split if you want a quieter valley stay without travelling across the country. It gives you sunrise-viewpoint potential and more time around Bhaktapur after day-trippers leave.
Stay in Kathmandu + day trips
The simplest option. Keep one hotel and use day trips for Patan, Bhaktapur, Boudha, Pashupatinath and Nagarkot rather than losing time repacking and changing accommodation.
⚠️ Dangers + what to look out for
Kathmandu is easy to enjoy once you plan around traffic, noise and neighbourhood choice. The biggest hotel mistakes are usually booking purely by map distance, underestimating road travel time or ignoring repeated complaints in recent reviews.
A short distance on the map can take much longer than expected. Check actual road access and recent guest comments about taxis, airport transfers and getting to the main sights.
Busy Thamel streets, bars, traffic and rooftop venues can be louder than photos suggest. If sleep matters, look for repeated comments about room position, windows and nighttime noise.
Road dust and pollution can vary by area and traffic conditions. A room set back from a major road, good window sealing and reliable air-conditioning can make a noticeable difference.
Read recent reviews for hot-water consistency, plumbing, cleanliness and the drinking-water setup. Do not assume every low-cost property delivers the same standards just because the photos look similar.
If the hotel offers an airport transfer, compare the price before accepting it. If arranging your own ride, confirm the fare or app price rather than negotiating only after the journey.
Expect warmer pre-monsoon conditions with a growing chance of showers and haze. Do not choose a hotel or itinerary that depends entirely on uninterrupted mountain views every day.
Some smaller properties can sit inside narrow lanes or courtyards that cars cannot reach directly. Check the exact pin and access instructions if you have large luggage.
Pay attention to repeated complaints about cleanliness, damp rooms, hot water, noise, misleading photos, unreliable Wi-Fi, surprise charges or difficult access before committing.
🛡️ Practical booking notes
If the refundable rate is only slightly more expensive than a non-refundable room, the flexibility is useful this far ahead of the trip.
Hotel pricing moves. Keep the original reservation as your safety net, then compare again before the cancellation deadline rather than gambling on prices falling later.
A cheaper rate is not automatically better if breakfast disappears, cancellation becomes restrictive, airport transfer is extra or taxes and fees move outside the headline price.
The flight leaves Kathmandu at 10:05. Keep the final night somewhere with straightforward airport access and allow a generous buffer because city traffic can be unpredictable.
