Calgary
from £372 return
About this deal
This is a very solid nonstop fare from London Heathrow to Calgary on Air Canada, with sensible daytime timings and a proper cabin bag included.
TravelUp fares via Skyscanner UK were showing around £372–£385 return. Air Canada direct was around £403 for the cabin-bag fare, so booking directly with the airline is still a very reasonable alternative.
The booking strategy changes if you need checked baggage: TravelUp Standard was £519.42, while Air Canada direct was £512.59. In other words, once you add a checked bag, booking directly with Air Canada can actually be cheaper.

Cabin baggage + fare options
TravelUp is cheaper if you are travelling with cabin baggage only. But when a checked bag is needed, Air Canada direct was £512.59 versus £519.42 with TravelUp Standard. This is a good example of why the cheapest headline fare is not always the cheapest final trip.
WestJet is real competition on this route. Direct WestJet fares can also appear in a similar price range, which is why the price score is strong rather than near-perfect.

Booking options
Best if you are travelling with cabin baggage only. The fares I found ranged from roughly £372 to £385 return.
Check TravelUp fare →If you value direct airline servicing, the premium is relatively small. And if you need a checked bag, Air Canada direct becomes the cheaper option.
Open Skyscanner & select Air Canada →The headline OTA fare wins for cabin baggage. But once one checked bag is added, the direct Air Canada fare was actually £6.83 cheaper than TravelUp Standard when checked. Compare the final trip price, not just the first number you see.
Compare booking options →The low fare appears across several October and November combinations. Recheck the live total, because the cheapest vendor and fare family can move between dates.
Excellent nonstop transatlantic value. The schedule is clean, a proper cabin bag is included, and the booking choices are unusually transparent. It stops short of the 9s mainly because WestJet competes at similar price levels and checked baggage changes the fare economics.

Calgary hotel playbook
For the first couple of nights, I’d keep it practical. Sandman Signature Calgary Downtown Hotel is not the fanciest or highest-rated stay in town, but it works well as a downtown base: good location, indoor pool, easy transit access and a very solid Karma saving on the reference stay.
Karma found this stay 24.9% cheaper — £199 instead of £265.
💰 How I use Karma for hotels
Use Booking.com to choose the area, the hotel and the exact room you actually want.
Leave Karma active while you search so it can quietly check if the same stay is cheaper elsewhere.
Match room type, taxes, breakfast and cancellation rules before paying. Cheapest is only useful if it is truly the same deal.
🏨 Hotel suggestion for the first nights
This is not a luxury blowout and it is not the best-rated hotel in Calgary. That said, for a first 2–3 nights it makes sense: central location, rail/C-Train access, indoor pool, fitness centre, restaurant and an easy base for settling in before moving on. For a city stopover before the mountains, practical often beats fancy.
⏳ How many nights in Calgary?
Fine if Calgary is just a landing pad before heading straight onward.
Good for downtown, a proper meal or two and an easy recovery from the flight.
Best balance if you want a little Calgary time before moving to the Rockies.
Only if you want a slower Alberta trip or several day trips from the city.
📍 Best areas to stay in Calgary
Best first base for transit, easy arrival and a short stay.
Good if you want more restaurants, bars and a livelier evening scene.
Smaller-scale, more local feel, nice cafés and easy access across the river.
Only really useful for a super late arrival or very early departure.
🚗 Where to go next — including the Rockies
The classic next stop. Roughly 1.5 hours by car from Calgary, or reachable by shuttle.
A practical Rockies base about 1 hour 15 minutes away. Often a little cheaper and less busy than Banff.
Ideal if the mountain scenery is the point. Best by car or as part of a shuttle/coach plan.
Longer but spectacular. Best done as a road-trip extension, not a rushed day trip.
⚠️ Calgary / Alberta survival kit
Weather can change quickly. In colder periods, pavements and roads can be icy even when they look harmless.
Alberta temperatures can swing fast. A sunny start does not guarantee a warm evening.
If heading west, check road conditions, carry enough fuel and do not underestimate distances.
Downtown is generally straightforward, but keep an eye on belongings and stay aware late at night.
City tours, Calgary Tower, Heritage Park, day trips and Rocky Mountain excursions — browse first, then only book what actually fits your trip.
