Outstanding nonstop transatlantic value with comfortable schedules, useful cabin baggage and extensive availability.
An excellent direct fare from Madrid to New York
Direct return flights from Madrid to New York JFK are available from €322 through online travel agencies, while the same itinerary can be booked directly on Finnair’s website for €333.
Dino recommends paying the small difference and booking directly with Finnair. The airline-direct fare costs only €11 more, while generally providing clearer fare conditions and easier support if the schedule changes or assistance is needed.
The itinerary is marketed by Finnair and operated by American Airlines. Both flights are nonstop, with an outbound journey of 8 hours 15 minutes and a return journey of 7 hours.
The schedule is especially attractive. The outbound departs Madrid at 13:00 and arrives in New York at 15:15, giving travellers time to reach their hotel comfortably. The return departs JFK at 19:50 and lands in Madrid at 08:50 the following morning.
The fare includes one personal item and one cabin trolley, with a combined cabin-baggage allowance of up to 8 kg. Checked baggage is not included unless a higher fare is selected.
Online travel agencies may display this itinerary from €322. However, the direct Finnair price is only €333.
Dino recommends booking directly with Finnair because the small saving offered by an OTA may not justify the additional complication if the airline changes the schedule, the booking needs to be modified or customer support is required.
The fare includes a personal item and cabin trolley with a combined limit of 8 kg. Checked baggage and advance seat selection may cost extra, so compare the final total before paying.
Recommended booking option: the €333 airline-direct fare on Finnair’s website.
Best for: New York city breaks, light travellers, couples, solo travellers and anyone looking for a low-cost nonstop transatlantic flight.
Less ideal for: travellers who need checked baggage or those who prefer a fare with free seat selection and greater flexibility.

Where to stay in New York: plan carefully for one of the world’s most expensive hotel markets
One thing is certain: New York accommodation is not cheap. A low flight price does not necessarily mean the complete trip will be inexpensive, so it is important to check hotel costs before committing to the flights.
For our sample search from 12/10 to 19/10, well-rated 3 and 4-star hotels in central locations started from around €300 per night.
Even when travelling as a couple, that still works out at around €150 per person per night. Over a seven-night stay, accommodation can therefore cost considerably more than the flights themselves.
Staying directly in Midtown Manhattan, Times Square, Chelsea or near Central Park is convenient, but these areas usually carry the highest prices. Travellers should compare the convenience of a central hotel against the potential savings available elsewhere.
For better value, consider accommodation outside the most expensive parts of Manhattan but close to a reliable subway connection. Areas such as Long Island City in Queens, Downtown Brooklyn, Williamsburg and selected parts of Jersey City can offer lower rates while still providing relatively easy access to Manhattan.
Long Island City can be particularly practical because several subway lines reach Midtown quickly. Jersey City may also offer good value and impressive skyline views, although travellers should check access to PATH trains and any additional transport costs.
Dino tip: always compare the final price rather than the initial nightly rate. New York properties may add taxes, destination fees or other mandatory charges. Also check room size, neighbourhood reviews, distance from the nearest station and whether late-night transport will feel practical.
Search and compare hotels in New York →Sample prices were checked for 12–19 October for two adults. Hotel prices and availability can change quickly. Always confirm the final total, taxes, mandatory property fees, exact location, recent reviews, cancellation conditions and distance from subway or PATH services before booking.
