Rome
from €94 return
About this deal
A very strong Dublin to Rome return fare from €94.21 with Aer Lingus,
including a 10 kg cabin bag and nonstop flights both ways.
The reference itinerary is 22–26 February 2027. This is the combination I prefer because
it avoids the very early 06:25 outbound seen on some other dates. You leave Dublin at 15:50,
arrive Rome Fiumicino at 19:55, and return at a very civilised 11:15.
On this route Aer Lingus is also the clear value winner against Ryanair when you compare like-for-like baggage.
Ryanair typically charges around €60 return to upgrade a Basic fare to Regular with a cabin trolley,
so Aer Lingus already including the 10 kg cabin bag makes the comparison much more favourable.
Routing: nonstop both ways
Baggage: 10 kg cabin bag included
Outbound: 15:50 → 19:55
Return: 11:15 → 13:35
Airline: Aer Lingus
Reference flight schedule
Aer Lingus EI406 · nonstop · approximately 3h05
This is the main reason for using 22–26 February as the reference instead of the cheaper-looking
early-morning combinations. You avoid a 03:30-style alarm clock and still arrive in Rome in time for dinner.
Aer Lingus EI403 · nonstop · approximately 3h20
A very civilised return schedule. You can have breakfast in Rome, head to Fiumicino without rushing,
and be back in Dublin early afternoon.
Fare proof
Direct Aer Lingus pricing for the reference itinerary. The fare includes the 10 kg cabin bag, which is important when comparing against Ryanair's Basic fare.
Check directly on Aer Lingus →Why Aer Lingus wins on this route
This is the key value point. At around €94 return, Aer Lingus already includes the cabin baggage most travellers actually want for a Rome city break.
Ryanair may initially show a lower Basic headline fare, but upgrading to Regular with a cabin trolley can add around €60 return. Once you compare the actual baggage package, Aer Lingus is the clear winner on this deal.
Schedule note: some of the other Aer Lingus date combinations leave Dublin at 06:25. Those may maximise your first day in Rome, but they also mean an extremely early airport start. I prefer the 15:50 outbound on the reference dates even though you sacrifice the first afternoon.
Booking options
Ryanair can show a cheaper Basic fare, but if you want a proper cabin trolley, upgrading to Regular can add roughly €60 return. Do not compare a bare Basic fare against Aer Lingus with the 10 kg cabin bag already included.
Nonstop both ways, sensible reference schedule and the 10 kg cabin bag already included. For this route and fare level, there is no reason to complicate the booking with an OTA.
Book direct with Aer Lingus →A €20–€30 cheaper Basic fare elsewhere is not really cheaper if you then pay around €60 return to add the bag you need. On this deal, €94.21 return including 10 kg cabin baggage is the number that matters.

Outstanding — excellent city-break pricing with useful baggage already included. €94 return for nonstop Dublin–Rome with a 10 kg cabin bag is genuinely strong. The 22–26 February reference combination also fixes the biggest weakness seen on other dates: the brutal early-morning outbound.

Dino hotel pick · Rome
Rome is one of those cities where you can still find well-rated, very central accommodation for around €100 per night outside the busiest periods — roughly €50 per person when travelling as a couple. For the 22–26 February reference trip, my pick is Minerva Relais, a small central property just a few minutes from the Pantheon and within walking distance of many of Rome's biggest sights.
Why Minerva Relais is the Dino pick
Minerva Relais is on Via Piè di Marmo, close to the Pantheon and right in the historic centre.
That means many of the places you will actually want to see — Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain,
Campo de' Fiori and large parts of central Rome — can be reached on foot.
The attached Booking.com result shows a 9.1/10 rating and an excellent location score.
For a four-night trip, I would happily prioritise a central, well-rated property like this over a larger hotel farther out.
How long should you stay in Rome?
The reference trip gives you four nights, which is almost ideal for a first visit. Because the outbound reaches Rome in the evening, you effectively get three full sightseeing days. That is enough for the main historic centre, Vatican City, Colosseum / Roman Forum and one slower neighbourhood or food-focused day.

Rome safety: the main thing to watch is pickpocketing
Dino rule in Rome: phone in a front pocket or zipped bag, wallet somewhere difficult to access, and nothing valuable in an open backpack pocket. Most visitors have no problem — but Rome's pickpockets are very good at their job.
Things to do in Rome
GetYourGuide Rome
GetYourGuide is particularly useful in Rome for Colosseum / Roman Forum tours, Vatican Museum visits, food tours, day trips to Pompeii, Tivoli and guided evening walks. For major sights with timed entry, I would book before arriving rather than hoping for the best on the day.
