although the 4-hour Munich connection makes the journey longer than necessary.

The strongest part of this fare is not only the price.
You are booking directly with SWISS / Lufthansa Group,
travelling on proper full-service long-haul aircraft
and still paying less than €600 return with an 8 kg cabin bag included.
The long-haul sectors are operated by a
SWISS Boeing 777-300ER outbound and a
Lufthansa Airbus A350-900 on the return.
This is a useful Malta deal, but it is not a 9/10 fare.
The outbound includes a 5h55 Zurich layover
and the return has a 4h05 Munich connection,
pushing total journey times to 19h10 and 17h45.
Late September and early October are also within Bangkok's wetter period,
so hot, humid weather and heavy showers are possible.
Finally, only two useful date combinations were found,
which significantly limits flexibility.
If an 8 kg cabin bag + personal item is enough,
this is the best-value version of the fare.
You keep the price below €600 and still book directly with the airline.
For a nearly two-week Thailand trip, paying an extra €80
for 23 kg checked baggage is quite reasonable.
I would choose this version if I knew I could not realistically travel with the 8 kg cabin allowance alone.

Bangkok is renowned for offering some of the best upscale-hotel value in Asia. Well-rated 4-star hotels can often start from around €40 per room per night, while some genuinely impressive 5-star hotels can be found for under €100 per night.
For the first nights of the reference Thailand trip, our pick is MUU Bangkok, Small Luxury Hotels of the World in Thong Lo. It combines a stylish 5-star feel, a rooftop-style outdoor pool, spacious rooms, a strong neighbourhood and an excellent 9.3/10 Booking.com rating.
For the reference itinerary I would start with 3 nights in Bangkok from 24-27 September. The SWISS flight lands at 09:50 on 24 September, so you should reach the city with enough time to check in, recover from the journey and still enjoy the first evening.
A very good opening stay: two full sightseeing days plus the arrival afternoon and evening.
Better if you want more time for food, rooftop bars, shopping, temples and slower neighbourhood exploration.
Enough time to use Bangkok as the starting point and then continue to northern Thailand or another region.
This is exactly the kind of hotel that demonstrates why Bangkok can be such outstanding value. MUU Bangkok is a stylish 5-star Small Luxury Hotels of the World property in the fashionable Thong Lo area, with a more boutique feel than many of the city's huge international-chain hotels.
The attached Booking.com listing shows an excellent 9.3/10 guest rating from more than 2,400 reviews, while staff score an impressive 9.7. Guests are also very positive about the location, with Thong Lo known for restaurants, cafés, bars and a more local upscale atmosphere.
The hotel offers an outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre, restaurants, room service, free Wi-Fi, airport shuttle and free parking. Rooms and suites are spacious by Bangkok standards and combine contemporary design with large windows, comfortable seating areas and modern bathrooms.
One particularly useful detail is the hotel's connection with the surrounding Thong Lo neighbourhood. This is not only a place to sleep after sightseeing: it works well for evenings when you want to walk out for dinner, drinks or cafés without returning immediately to the main tourist zones.
For the sample 24-27 September stay, the lowest displayed room rate was around €348 for 3 nights. For two people sharing, that works out at approximately €174 per person for the complete stay, or roughly €58 per person per night.
A breakfast-included option was shown around €406 per room, while more flexible options appeared around €499-€583. As always, I would compare breakfast and cancellation conditions rather than choosing purely by the lowest headline rate.

Thong Lo + outdoor pool
Bangkok is huge, so choosing the right neighbourhood matters more than simply finding the cheapest hotel. For a first 3-night stay, I would stay somewhere with easy transport, restaurants and good evening options.
Put Bangkok's main historic sights together on one day rather than crossing the city repeatedly.
Use the river boats for sightseeing and transport while getting a very different perspective on the city.
Bangkok's food scene is one of the strongest reasons to spend several nights here. Mix street food, markets and one more polished restaurant experience.
Finish one day with a rooftop bar or relaxed evening around Thong Lo rather than trying to squeeze in another attraction.
With around 12 hotel nights in Thailand, Bangkok should be the beginning of the trip rather than the whole holiday. Late September and early October can be wet in parts of Thailand, so I would keep the final beach or island component flexible around the weather forecast.
