A very solid full-service fare from Budapest to Taipei with Turkish Airlines, with just one connection in Istanbul each way.
The cheapest options I found are around €548-€559 via Bravofly or Opodo through Skyscanner Hungary.
Turkish Airlines itself is also available from the Skyscanner vendor list for around €576 return.
For only around €17-€28 more, I would personally prefer booking directly with Turkish Airlines.

On some dates, there may be more than one departure option from Budapest. I would favour the 09:00 departure even when it is slightly longer overall, especially when travelling with children: it avoids a late-night Istanbul connection and gives a better chance of uninterrupted sleep on the long overnight sector.

Prices and exact flight times can vary by date. Some combinations offer more than one Budapest departure, so compare the total journey time and Istanbul connection before choosing purely by price.
The faster-looking option is not always the better one.
On the reference dates, the 09:00 Budapest departure creates a longer daytime connection in Istanbul, but avoids changing planes late at night.
For families in particular, that can be worth more than shaving a little time off the total journey: you board the long-haul sector in the afternoon and have a much better chance of getting a proper block of sleep before arriving in Taipei the following morning.
The Turkish Airlines fare is strong, but it is not always the absolute cheapest way to reach Taipei from Budapest.
Selected dates can show lower fares with Chinese carriers. The trade-off is that those alternatives can involve longer, less comfortable connections and noticeably longer total journey times.
September is also not Taiwan's strongest weather period, so I would personally favour the October, November or January / February combinations when the price remains close.

The savings versus Turkish Airlines are fairly small, so I would compare the final payment amount and fare conditions before choosing the OTA.

At only around €17-€28 more than the cheapest OTA, I would personally pay the small premium and deal directly with the operating airline.
This is especially true for a long-haul itinerary where schedule changes or rebooking can be more consequential.
I found 11 combinations from September 2026 through February 2027. October, November and the January / February dates are particularly attractive if you want to avoid Taiwan's hotter, more humid late-summer conditions.

The price is not always the absolute lowest and September is a weaker weather period, which keeps the score at 9.0 rather than higher.

New communityFor most first-time visitors I would spend 3-4 nights in Taipei. That is enough for the main city sights, several night markets, good food, one slower neighbourhood day and at least one easy excursion without feeling rushed.
The Budapest-Taipei fares include several longer trips, so I would not automatically spend the entire stay in the capital. Taiwan is compact enough to combine Taipei with the south of the island, and if your ticket gives you two weeks or more, a short international side trip can also work.
My sweet spot is 4 nights for a first visit. Taipei is easy to navigate, but there is enough variety between Ximending, Xinyi, Da'an, Zhongshan, the old city, temples and night markets that a two-night stay feels unnecessarily rushed.
Three full city days plus one day for Beitou, Jiufen / Shifen or another easy excursion. This is what I would choose on most of the longer Turkish Airlines dates.
Fine if you want to move quickly through Taiwan. Stay close to an MRT station and keep your sightseeing concentrated.
Worth considering if food, cafes, neighbourhoods, hot springs and multiple day trips matter more than covering the entire island.
Taipei's MRT makes many neighbourhoods practical. I would focus less on being beside Taipei Main Station and more on choosing an area that matches the kind of evenings and atmosphere you want.
Combine the modern Xinyi district with one of the classic skyline viewpoints. This works particularly well from late afternoon into evening.
Raohe, Ningxia and the wider night-market culture are a major part of the Taipei experience. I would build at least two evenings around food rather than treating dinner as an afterthought.
Longshan Temple, Dihua Street and the older districts give you a completely different view of the city from Taipei 101 and Xinyi.
A strong indoor option and worth allowing several hours if Chinese art and history interest you.
If you have four nights or more, I would add at least one day outside central Taipei.
Taiwan's high-speed rail makes a north-to-south trip very easy. On a 10-17 night itinerary I would strongly consider moving beyond Taipei.
Dino 13-night Taiwan idea: Taipei 4 nights → Taichung / Sun Moon Lake 2 nights → Tainan 3 nights → Kaohsiung 3 nights → Taipei 1 final night.
Taroko is one of Taiwan's most famous destinations, but I would not automatically build it into the itinerary right now.
Earthquake and typhoon recovery work is still affecting parts of Taroko National Park.
Some recreation areas and trails have reopened only partially, while other routes and sections remain restricted.
If Taroko is important to your trip, check the latest official National Park trail and road status shortly before travelling
rather than relying on an old itinerary or blog post.
Taipei is one of Asia's easiest gateways for adding a short second destination. I would only do this on the longer 15-17 night fares, and I would leave a buffer in Taipei before the Turkish Airlines flight home.
Dino 17-night Taiwan + abroad idea: Taipei 4 nights → Tainan 3 nights → Kaohsiung 2 nights → Hong Kong or Seoul 3 nights → Taipei / northern Taiwan 4 nights → Taipei 1 final night.
Any Taipei-Hong Kong, Seoul or Tokyo add-on would normally be a separate ticket
from the Turkish Airlines Budapest-Taipei itinerary.
I would return to Taipei at least one full night before the Turkish Airlines flight home.
Do not build a same-day self-connection between an unrelated regional ticket and the long-haul ticket unless you are comfortable carrying the disruption risk yourself.
