New York

Madrid
from $286 return
About this deal
This is an unusual one:
New York to Madrid from $286 return
on a Turkish Airlines ticket,
with the flights
operated by Avianca via Bogotá.
The cheapest option I found was
Oojo at $286 via Skyscanner US,
with payment in US dollars.
Personally, I would spend just
$18 more and choose Turkish Airlines at $304
from the Skyscanner vendor list.
That keeps the booking directly with the ticketing airline
rather than an OTA.
The reference trip is
06–20 May 2027.
The price is exceptional,
but the routing is not:
the outbound takes
22h40
and includes a
7h20 connection in Bogotá.
There are far more straightforward nonstop flights
between New York and Madrid,
but if your priority is saving money,
the discount here is difficult to ignore.
I also found
many more dates across April and May 2027
around the same price level.

Fare details + catches
There are much easier nonstop ways to fly New York–Madrid, but they are substantially more expensive. If your priority is getting to Madrid as cheaply as possible with checked baggage included , a fare around $286–304 return is genuinely difficult to dismiss.
Flying New York → Bogotá → Madrid is a huge detour. The outbound takes 22h40, including a 7h20 wait in Bogotá. This is absolutely a price-first itinerary, not the option I would choose for convenience.
The ticket is sold under Turkish Airlines flight numbers, but the operating carrier shown for the reference itinerary is Avianca. Expect the onboard experience to follow the operating airline rather than Turkish Airlines' own aircraft product.
This is the lowest fare shown in the reference search. The Skyscanner US market displays the booking in US dollars.
Check the reference search →This is the option I would personally choose. For only $18 more than Oojo, you can select Turkish Airlines from the Skyscanner vendor list and keep the ticket purchase directly with the airline.
Check Turkish Airlines option →These are examples across April and May 2027. I also saw many more combinations around the same fare level, so availability is one of the strongest parts of this deal.
An exceptional price and excellent availability, but achieved with one of the least direct routings imaginable for New York–Madrid. Great for a traveller focused on saving money; much harder to recommend to anyone who values time and convenience.

Madrid hotel playbook
The reference trip arrives in Madrid at 06:10 on 7 May 2027 and flies back to New York at 17:20 on 20 May. That gives you 13 normal hotel nights: 7 through 19 May. The main hotel issue is the very early arrival. Standard check-in will usually be much later, so either arrange guaranteed early check-in or consider booking 6 May as an extra night if you want the room immediately after landing.
This is not a two-night stopover. You are staying almost two weeks, so I would pay attention to room size, noise, air conditioning, transport and neighbourhood rather than simply booking the cheapest central room. Start on Booking.com, keep Karma active, then compare the exact same conditions before paying.
💰 Dino hotel booking method
Decide whether you want maximum central convenience, nightlife, a quieter residential area or easy transport connections. For 13 nights, the right neighbourhood matters.
Ask the hotel whether it can guarantee early check-in. If not, booking the night of 6 May as well may be worth considering.
On a long stay, compare the complete 13-night total, cancellation terms, breakfast and room type, not just the nightly headline rate.
⏳ How many hotel nights?
Check in on 7 May and check out on 20 May. That covers the nights of 7 through 19 May.
Booking from 6 May can make sense if you want the room waiting when you arrive at 06:10 on the 7th.
The return flight leaves at 17:20, so normal hotel checkout on 20 May works. Leave luggage with the hotel if needed.
For 13 nights, check whether the hotel offers a weekly or long-stay rate before confirming the booking.
📍 Best areas to stay in Madrid
Best if you want to walk to many of Madrid's major sights and be right in the middle of the city. Convenient, but often busy and noisy.
Excellent for restaurants, bars, cafés and nightlife. Good if you want a lively neighbourhood rather than a purely sightseeing base.
Quieter, more polished and excellent for a longer stay. A strong option if you want comfort without being far from the centre.
Useful for railway connections, museums and often better-value accommodation. Particularly practical if you plan day trips by train.
🌎 How I would use a 13-night Madrid stay
With almost two weeks, there is no need to rush the Prado, Retiro, Royal Palace, neighbourhoods and food scene.
One of the easiest day trips from Madrid and a natural addition to a longer stay.
Another straightforward day-trip option if you want to mix Madrid with a historic smaller city.
A 13-night trip does not need to become a checklist. Leave room for markets, neighbourhoods, restaurants and simply enjoying the city.
✈️ Where to go next from Madrid
Madrid is also a very useful jumping-off point if you want to turn the trip into a longer European itinerary. If you have extra time, these are four cities I would look at first.
Paris · France
A natural next stop if you want another major European capital, museums, architecture and a completely different atmosphere. Madrid has frequent direct flights to Paris.
Lisbon · Portugal
Probably the easiest international extension if you want to combine Spain and Portugal. Excellent food, viewpoints, historic neighbourhoods and frequent direct flights from Madrid.
Rome · Italy
A strong option for turning the trip into a Spain + Italy combination. History, food, architecture and plenty of direct air connections from Madrid.
Amsterdam · Netherlands
A very different follow-up to Madrid: canals, museums, compact neighbourhoods and easy direct flights between the two capitals.
⚠️ Madrid practical survival kit
Be especially careful in busy tourist areas, crowded Metro carriages, around Sol, Gran Vía, Atocha and major attractions. Keep wallets and phones in a zipped front pocket or closed cross-body bag.
Café terraces and busy bars are exactly where a phone left beside your drink can disappear quickly. Keep it in your hand, pocket or closed bag when you are not using it.
Be cautious if strangers suddenly surround you, ask you to sign something, offer unsolicited help or create a distraction while another person is nearby. Protect your belongings first.
Madrid stays lively very late. Keep an eye on your drink, stay with people you trust and use a licensed taxi or established ride-hailing service if you do not want to walk back late at night.
Do not carry every bank card, all your cash and your passport together. Keep a backup card somewhere separate in case your main wallet disappears.
Carry a digital copy of your passport and keep another copy somewhere separate. Losing both your passport and every copy of your details makes an already bad situation much harder.
At the airport, station and late at night, use official taxis, public transport or established ride-hailing apps. Avoid accepting random transport offers.
If you need police, ambulance or emergency assistance in Spain, the general emergency number is 112. Save it in your phone before the trip.
Madrid is easy to explore independently, but with a 13-night stay you have enough time to add food tours, museum visits, football experiences and day trips outside the city.
A few useful extras that can make the journey easier, particularly when travelling with restrictive cabin-bag fares, arriving late or needing mobile data as soon as you land.
A useful packing solution when you are trying to fit more clothing
into a restricted cabin bag.
Particularly relevant for travellers using airlines such as
Ryanair and Wizz Air, where baggage dimensions and
additional luggage fees can significantly change the final cost of a
cheap flight.
Compress your clothing and make better use of the space available
inside your luggage.
Arrive with mobile data ready and avoid searching for a local SIM
card or relying on airport Wi-Fi.

10% off your first purchase.
Travelling for longer? Saily Ultra includes
30 GB of high-speed data plus unlimited reduced-speed data
,
together with additional travel benefits.
Pre-book your airport transfer before travelling.
Particularly useful for
late-night arrivals, families and travellers with luggage
,
or when arriving somewhere unfamiliar and you would rather have a
driver waiting than search for transport after landing.
