Essential first-time Chile extension

Puerto Varas and the Lake District

Patagonia and Torres del Paine

Nights 1–3 Santiago: recover from the flight, explore the historical centre, Lastarria, Providencia and Cerro San Cristóbal.

Nights 4–5 Valparaíso or Viña del Mar: add the coast and, when practical, a stop in the Casablanca wine region.

Nights 6–10 San Pedro de Atacama: allow four or five nights for the principal desert excursions without scheduling every day too tightly.

Final nights Return to Santiago or add the Lake District. Patagonia is better reserved for a longer trip because of the additional flights, transfers and weather dependency.
