New York
from €266 return
About this deal
A very unusual way to reach New York from Spain: book directly with Turkish Airlines, while every flight is operated by Avianca via Bogotá. The reference fare is €265.55 return, which I would simply call €266, and the EcoFly fare includes 1 × 23kg checked bag.
The routing is definitely the scenic option rather than the fastest one, but the price is exceptional. The outbound Bogotá connection is only 2h20; the return has a longer 8h30 daytime connection, arriving Bogotá at 06:05 and continuing to Madrid at 14:35.
Barcelona also works from around €262, but the connections are worse, so Madrid is the cleaner option for only a few euros more.
Operated by: Avianca
Routing: 1 stop in Bogotá
Checked baggage: 1 × 23kg included
Fare: Economy EcoFly
Reference stay: 8 nights
Reference flight schedule
Ticketed by Turkish Airlines · operated by Avianca
Madrid 16:20 → Bogotá 20:45 · Boeing 787-8
2h20 connection in BOG
Bogotá 23:05 → New York JFK 05:00+1 · Boeing 787-8
The outbound is the better half of the itinerary: a manageable connection and wide-body aircraft on both sectors.
Ticketed by Turkish Airlines · operated by Avianca
New York JFK 00:15 → Bogotá 06:05 · Airbus A321
8h30 daytime connection in BOG
Bogotá 14:35 → Madrid 06:10+1 · Boeing 787-8
The connection is long, but at least it runs through the day rather than becoming an overnight airport wait.
Baggage + fare details
At this price I would not complicate the booking. The fare is sold directly by Turkish Airlines, even though the actual flights are operated by Avianca. That removes the usual OTA concern from an already very cheap fare.
FlexFly is available if you need more flexibility. The upgrade shown costs €70 per person, per one-way and adds a second 23kg checked bag, standard seat selection and more flexible change/refund conditions. For most travellers, the €266 EcoFly fare is where the value is.

Booking options
For only a few euros more than Barcelona, Madrid gives you the much cleaner connection pattern. Book it directly with Turkish Airlines and keep the 23kg checked bag included.
Search Madrid on Turkish Airlines →Barcelona is marginally cheaper, but the checked itinerary had a 4h30 outbound and 10h return connection in Bogotá. I would pay the extra few euros for Madrid.
Search Barcelona on Turkish Airlines →The flights are operated by Avianca, but the fare is sold directly by Turkish Airlines. Before paying, recheck the exact dates, EcoFly baggage allowance and connection times — especially because the return routing is long.
Open Turkish Airlines →There are plenty of combinations from February through May. Prices can move, so use these as starting points and recheck the final total directly on Turkish Airlines.
Very good value if you can live with the detour. €266 return to New York with a 23kg checked bag and direct booking through Turkish Airlines is exceptional pricing. The long Bogotá routing — especially the return connection — is the trade-off.

New York hotel playbook
New York can get expensive very quickly, so I would start with the area, compare the final price including taxes and hotel fees, then let Karma check whether the same stay is available for less elsewhere. For this trip I would normally aim for 4–5 nights in New York, then use the longer dates to add another East Coast city.
New York hotel prices move a lot. Check the same room with Karma switched on before you pay — and always compare the final total, not just the nightly rate.
💰 Dino hotel booking method
Pick the neighbourhood and subway access that fit your trip, then shortlist hotels with strong recent reviews.
Leave Karma active while browsing Booking.com so it can compare prices in the background.
If Karma finds nothing useful, do one final like-for-like comparison before paying.
⏳ How many nights in New York?
Fine for a fast first taste, but you will be choosing what to skip.
Enough for the main Manhattan sights plus one or two neighbourhoods beyond Midtown.
A much better balance for Manhattan, Brooklyn and some time without racing between attractions.
Great if you want a slower New York trip or plan a day trip before continuing elsewhere.
📍 Best areas to stay in New York
Very convenient for a first visit and major sights, but often expensive and busy.
Good for Downtown sights, Brooklyn access and a slightly different feel from Midtown.
One of my favourite value searches: often better room prices with quick subway access to Manhattan.
Great atmosphere and food, but check the exact subway journey before booking too far out.
🚀 Where to go next — perfect for the longer dates
Philadelphia
Easy by train and ideal for 1–2 nights if you want history, food and a compact city centre.
Washington DC
Great 2–3 night add-on for museums, monuments and a very different city feel.
Boston
Another easy rail or short-flight extension with history, neighbourhoods and good food.
Niagara Falls
Best if you have extra days and are happy to add a longer journey or short domestic flight.
Toronto, Canada
A very easy second-country option from New York, especially if you have one of the longer prepared trips.
Montréal, Canada
Good if you want a completely different atmosphere and can spare several extra days.
⚠️ New York survival kit
Your reference dates are in winter. Snow, wind and icy pavements can make a walking-heavy day feel much longer.
A cheaper hotel is only a bargain if you are not spending forever getting back to it every night.
Always check the final total for taxes and any property or destination fees before paying.
Keep valuables discreet, stay aware on late-night transport and use normal caution in crowded tourist areas.
Observation decks, Broadway, museums, neighbourhood tours, food experiences and day trips — browse first, then book only what genuinely improves your trip.
A few useful extras that can make the journey easier, particularly when travelling with restrictive cabin-bag fares, arriving late or needing mobile data as soon as you land.
A useful packing solution when you are trying to fit more clothing

Particularly relevant for travellers using airlines such as
Ryanair and Wizz Air, where baggage dimensions and
additional luggage fees can significantly change the final cost of a
cheap flight.
Compress your clothing and make better use of the space available
