Chiang Mai
from €464 return
About this deal
I found Vienna to Chiang Mai from €464 return with Etihad for several dates in early 2027.
The fare is Economy Value and includes a 25 kg checked bag, which makes the price much stronger than a basic hand-luggage-only fare.
My reference trip is 1–16 March 2027. The schedule is very good for a one-stop trip:
13h35 outbound and 14h35 return, with sensible connections in Abu Dhabi rather than an overnight wait.
The cheapest option I found was €464 with Bravofly via Skyscanner Austria.
Etihad was still showing around €518.22 direct, so the difference is roughly €54.
For a long-haul connecting trip, I would personally lean towards paying a bit more and booking directly with Etihad, but both options are worth showing.
There are more dates at similar prices, but quite a few of them require an overnight connection in Abu Dhabi.
I left those out and kept only the combinations I would actually consider booking.

Why I like this one
Bravofly via Skyscanner Austria: €464 return.
Etihad direct: about €518.22 return.
The saving is around €54. I would personally lean towards Etihad direct for a long-haul connecting itinerary, but the OTA saving is large enough that I would still show both.
There are many more dates around these prices, but a lot of them require an overnight connection in Abu Dhabi. I have left those out and kept the cleaner itineraries below.
Booking options
This is the lowest price I found for the 1–16 March reference trip. If the saving matters to you, it is worth checking — just read the final fare conditions carefully before paying.
Check the €464 option →Around €54 more than Bravofly when checked. For a long-haul trip with two connections, I would personally prefer dealing directly with Etihad if anything changes before or during the trip.
Compare Etihad direct →There are more dates around these prices, but I excluded the ones with an overnight connection in Abu Dhabi.
This is a very strong Economy deal: low price, proper checked baggage, clean one-stop schedules and a good airline. I have deliberately left out the cheaper-looking dates that require an overnight in Abu Dhabi.

Chiang Mai hotel guide
The reference trip arrives in Chiang Mai on 2 March 2027 and flies home on 16 March, giving you 14 hotel nights. I would not spend every night in one hotel. My preference would be to use Chiang Mai as the main base, then add a few nights somewhere nearby such as Pai or Chiang Rai.
Chiang Mai can still be very good value, so I would first find a hotel in the area I actually want, book it with free cancellation, keep Karma active, and compare again later rather than waiting for the perfect deal.
💰 Dino hotel booking method
Chiang Mai is easy to get around, but the feel changes a lot between the Old City, Nimman and the riverside. I would choose the area before comparing individual hotels.
Once you find a room you like, let Karma check whether another seller has the same room for less. Keep the cancellation terms in view before switching.
Compare the final total once more before paying. I would rather keep a refundable booking than save a few euros and lose flexibility.
⏳ How many nights would I stay in Chiang Mai?
Enough for the Old City, temples, markets and one day outside the centre, but still fairly busy.
This gives you time to slow down, eat well, explore different neighbourhoods and add one or two day trips.
With this much time, I would keep Chiang Mai as the main base but add a few nights somewhere else in northern Thailand.
I would be back in Chiang Mai the night before the 09:10 departure so the final morning stays easy.
📍 Best areas to stay
My easiest recommendation for a first visit. Walkable, full of temples, cafés and restaurants, and simple for getting your bearings.
Better if you like cafés, modern restaurants, coworking spaces and a more contemporary neighbourhood feel.
Convenient for evening markets, restaurants and larger hotels. A good middle ground if you do not need to be inside the Old City walls.
Often better value and more local-feeling than Nimman, while still being close enough to the main parts of the city.
🌎 What I would do with the other nights
A natural add-on if you want a slower mountain-town break. I would stay a few nights rather than trying to do it as a rushed day trip.
Good for a couple of nights if you want to see more of northern Thailand without turning the trip into constant moving.
Quieter and less touristy. A nice option if you want somewhere different without adding a flight.
With two weeks, you could also combine Chiang Mai with Bangkok or another part of Thailand if you are happy adding a domestic flight.
⚠️ Chiang Mai practical tips
March can overlap with northern Thailand's smoky season. I would check the air-quality forecast close to departure and keep the middle of the trip flexible.
This is one destination where upgrading from basic to genuinely comfortable often does not cost very much.
Chiang Mai airport is close to the city, so I would not pay a big premium just to stay near the terminal.
Chiang Mai has too many good cafés and local breakfast options for me to pay a large hotel supplement unless the breakfast reviews are excellent.
I would keep most of Chiang Mai independent, but a cooking class, an ethical elephant experience, or a properly organised trip outside the city can be worth booking in advance.
