If the idea is to land in Kenya, head straight to the beach and not worry about finding somewhere to eat every day, Papillon Lagoon Reef Hotel is worth considering. It is not a flashy luxury resort, but it offers a straightforward all-inclusive beach stay, a large pool, restaurants and bars in a very attractive beachfront setting. For such a last-minute trip, the price is the part that really caught my attention.

Why I like this hotel + who it suits
Papillon Lagoon Reef Hotel makes sense if your priority is simple:
beach, pool, food included and very little organising once you arrive.
The property has a traditional Swahili feel, tropical gardens and a beachfront setting rather than the polished,
ultra-modern style of a newer five-star resort.
That is also why I think the price works. The Booking.com rate shown is
€1,196 total for the room for 2 adults for all 7 nights on the selected all-inclusive rate,
which is roughly €598 per person for the entire week.
For somebody booking this Kenya trip almost at the last minute, that is the type of rate where I would happily accept
a simpler hotel in exchange for a much easier holiday budget.
The hotel is also about a 10-minute drive from Diani's shops, so you are not completely isolated if you want to leave the resort.
Mombasa Airport transfer + taxi cost
Papillon Lagoon Reef Hotel is roughly 50–55 km by road from Moi International Airport (MBA).
The hotel listing itself quotes around 1 hour 15 minutes by car, although traffic and the route used can change the journey time.
For a normal private car, I would budget around KES 5,500–6,500 one way
(roughly US$43–50 per vehicle) if arranged in advance with a reputable Diani transfer operator.
Some providers and larger vehicles charge more, so always agree the full price before travelling.
Dino tip: after a long charter flight I would pre-book the transfer rather than negotiate on arrival.
Ask the hotel or driver to confirm the price includes the complete trip to Diani and any route / crossing charges.

For this 7-night reference trip, I would keep things fairly simple.
You are travelling on a very last-minute charter, so the attraction here is arriving, switching off and using Diani as the base.
