Praia has plenty of cheaper self-catering apartments, with some options starting from around €50 per night. For this trip, however, our attention went to Chez Maria Julia Boutique Hotel in Palmarejo.
It is not necessarily the cheapest place to sleep on Santiago, but the combination of a good location, very positive guest reviews, breakfast included and flexible cancellation makes it a much more complete choice for the reference 7-14 October 2026 stay. The attached Booking.com search showed a rate of around €594 for 7 nights per room, including taxes and charges, with superb breakfast included, free cancellation before 6 October and no prepayment required.
The reference flight gives you 7 nights, which is enough to enjoy Praia without rushing and still use the capital as a base for wider Santiago Island. You can either keep the same hotel for the full week and make day trips, or split the stay if you want a couple of nights in the north of the island.
The simplest option: stay in Praia for the full week and use it as your base for Cidade Velha, beaches, markets and one longer island excursion.
Enough time for the Plateau, local food, Quebra Canela, Prainha and Cidade Velha without turning the trip into constant moving.
Spend four nights in Praia, then move north for two or three nights around Tarrafal if you want more beach time and a slower island finish.
For the 7-14 October 2026 reference trip, this is the property that caught our eye. Chez Maria Julia Boutique Hotel is located on Avenida da Boavista in Palmarejo, Praia, and offers a more comfortable boutique-hotel experience than the cheapest self-catering options around the city.
The attached Booking.com listing shows a strong 8.7/10 guest rating from around 330 reviews. Comfort and cleanliness are particularly well rated, while the property also scores highly for free Wi-Fi.
What really makes this rate attractive is the package rather than the absolute lowest nightly price. The displayed €594 total for 7 nights includes superb breakfast, while the selected rate also showed free cancellation before 6 October 2026 and no prepayment required - pay at the property.
For two travelers sharing, that is approximately €297 per person for the entire week, or around €42 per person per night. That is more than the cheapest apartment, but still reasonable for a full-service stay where breakfast and flexibility are already built into the rate.
The listing shows facilities including restaurant, bar, room service, 24-hour front desk, free Wi-Fi and airport shuttle. It is also around 6 km from Nelson Mandela International Airport, making it a practical arrival and departure base.
I would choose this property for travelers who want a comfortable base for the week without having to organise breakfast every morning or commit to a rigid non-refundable apartment rate. It feels like the better-balanced option for this particular flight deal.

Praia is spread across several neighbourhoods, so the best area depends on whether you want restaurants and modern accommodation, historic atmosphere or easy access to the seafront. For a one-week stay, I would prioritise comfort and easy taxi access over trying to be beside every sight.
Walk around Praia's historic centre, including Alexandre Albuquerque Square, Avenida Amílcar Cabral, local markets and the city's colonial-era streets.
Keep some unplanned time for the coast. Praia is not only a city stop, and these areas give you an easy beach break without leaving the capital.
One of the most important day trips from Praia. The UNESCO-listed old capital lies around 15 km west of the city and is packed with Cape Verdean history.
Leave room for Cape Verdean cuisine, live music and an unhurried evening in Praia rather than filling every day with excursions.
Seven nights gives you enough time to see more than Praia. Santiago is the largest island in Cape Verde, and the contrast between the capital, historic towns, interior mountains and the north-coast beaches is a big part of the appeal.
