A superb festive-season fare from Faro to Edinburgh with Jet2.
The cheapest combination is 22 December 2026 – 5 January 2027 at €90.90 return.
But my preferred itinerary is 29 December – 3 January at €130.50 return.
It costs about €40 more, but five nights is a much better balance for Edinburgh over New Year:
enough time for the city plus one or two side trips without paying for nearly two weeks of expensive festive-season accommodation.
All listed dates include a 10 kg cabin bag. Some OTAs may show slightly cheaper fares,
but I recommend searching through Skyscanner Portugal and then selecting Jet2,
especially if you may need to add baggage, seats or other extras later.

Why the most expensive flight is Dino's pick
The €91 fare wins on ticket price, but the €131 itinerary wins on total-trip logic. Five nights is enough to enjoy Edinburgh properly, celebrate New Year and fit in one or two side trips. The roughly €40 airfare difference can easily be recovered by avoiding extra hotel nights.
Always check hotels before booking the flight. Edinburgh around New Year can be very expensive on the ground, which is why the overall Dino Score stops at 9.4 rather than going higher.

Edinburgh is extremely popular over New Year and hotel prices can be brutal. That is exactly why our preferred flight dates are
29 December 2026 – 3 January 2027. They are the most expensive flight combination, but the shorter
5-night stay keeps the much bigger accommodation bill under control.
For 2 adults, I would budget roughly €1,000–€1,600 total for 5 nights if you want a reasonably
well-located hotel with decent reviews over Hogmanay.
For hotels, I normally browse Booking.com with the Karma browser extension active. If Karma surfaces the same hotel cheaper elsewhere, compare it carefully. If it finds nothing useful, check the same hotel on Trivago.
