Direct return flights from Kraków to Vienna are available from around 131 zł, approximately €31, with Ryanair and Buzz. For a summer city break between two popular Central European cities, this is excellent value.

The journey takes only around 1 hour 5 minutes each way, making it much faster than travelling overland. Flight times vary depending on the selected date, but the available schedules are generally comfortable and practical.

Where to stay in Vienna: comfortable and well connected from €90 per night

Vienna offers a wide range of accommodation, and you do not necessarily need to stay directly beside the historic centre to enjoy a convenient city break.

For our sample search from 19/07 to 25/07, well-rated 3 and 4-star hotels in areas with good public transport connections were available from approximately €90 per night.

That works out at only around €45 per person per night when travelling as a couple, making it possible to enjoy a comfortable summer stay without paying premium prices for the most central streets.

Good-value areas to compare include locations around Wien Hauptbahnhof, Prater, Landstraße, Westbahnhof and neighbourhoods close to a U-Bahn station. Vienna’s public transport is efficient, so a well-connected hotel outside the historic centre can still provide quick access to Stephansplatz, Schönbrunn Palace, Belvedere and the main attractions.

Dino tip: during summer, check whether the room has air conditioning. Also compare the hotel’s distance from the nearest underground or tram stop, as this can make a major difference when exploring the city.
