What to do in Aarhus, DENMARK ?

European Capital of Culture 2017, is the second largest city in Denmark home to 270.000 inhabitants and overlooking the eastern coast, surrounded by beautiful beaches and pristine forests.

The city’s size, its long list of attractions and the ease of getting there by air from all over Europe make Aarhus a fantastic European city break destination. The city centre is compact and easily walkable with excellent shopping, trendy restaurants and an interesting mix of both old and futuristic buildings.

A great way to start your sightseeing tour is to visit Den Gamle By, a large and unique outdoor musem, where you can explore over 75 historic houses, each reconstructed to create a perfect image of an ancient Danish village.

​A new addition to the city skyline is the spectacular rainbow panorama Aros a 150 meters long circular path offering stunning 360° views, created by the world-famous Danish-Icelandic artist, Olafur Eliasson. 

Another main attraction worth a visit is the Museum of Prehistory of Moesgard dedicated to archaeology and ethnography where you can find more than 50.000 artefacts from all over the world.

Visit also the Marselisborg Deer Park, located in the south of the city. The park houses a wonderful population of deers living in their natural habitat. The entrance to the park is free and It's a guaranteed fun family day out, you will also find many benches and tables, so feel free to bring along a picnic basket for a pleasant lunch or a snack in the wonderful surroundings.

The vibrant student population keeps Aarhus nightlife lively even on week nights, most night cafés and bars can be found by the picturesque river downtown, or in the narrower streets in the centre. Many clubs offers live music on most nights of the week.

While Aarhus is enjoyable all year round, we do reccommend a visit during summer to take advantage of the many events taking place such as the famous NorthSide Music Festival, and the Moesgård Viking Moot, one of the world's oldest and largest viking markets held each year in July.

​There are many blue-flag sandy beaches on both ends of the city limits which can be easily reached by public transport or by renting a bycicle. Most beaches are equipped with clean toilets and food stalls.
